18.4.7 Terrariums

Terrariums! Adorable little collections of self-reliant biomes, just add sunlight (where applicable).

Each terrarium is a small instance of its own environment. When dropped in your haven (or castle), it will sit there contently existing without need or input from anything. Pleasant ambient messages will surround those nearby... each of which gives a small, short time buff. And yes, they stack, so you're perfectly capable of filling an entire creepy room with terrariums. A room with a terrarium also gets a 1% bonus to endurance/willpower regeneration, but this does not stack.

These buffs last something like 20 minutes when away from the terrarium.
Normal - 1% Exp Bonus
Sky - 1 Celerity Bonus
Desert - 1% Fire Audit Bonus

Of course, in Aetolia, nothing is JUST pleasant. If one were to say... open a terrarium, and place a minipet within? Why, who knows what will happen!

You do, because this explains it.

The minipet placed within will be subject to a gauntlet of horror. Shrunken to fit inside the three layered terrarium, your sacrificial pet will race to discover the location of the hidden treasure. Of course, you knew terrariums include hidden treasure, right? Within 60 seconds two outcomes will occur: Your minipet will die a horrible death, or it will find the treasure and escape. Both options will destroy the terrarium utterly.

Both options will also give treasure!

There are three layers to every terrarium. Each layer (numbered 1-3) provides a different level of challenge to the minipet placed within. Layer 1 is relatively easy, even a terrible pet should expect about a 75% chance of making it. Layer 2 is around 26%, and Layer 3 is 17%. An amazing, flat out perfect pet should expect 98%/70%/57% respectively. Generally, every 'type' of terrarium has a primary stat, and a secondary.

Winning a layer gives a pristine chest. Winning a Layer 2 gives a pristine and stamped chest. Winning layer 3 will reward a pristine and two stamped chests.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
DROP TERRARIUM
--------------
This will place your terrarium. You'd best like where you put it, because it WILL NOT BE moving after that. It will only go to a place owned by YOU. So, a haven, or a castle. If you get one and have nowhere to put it, MSG RAZMAEL, and we'll see if we can find a compromise on where it can be allowed. Orgs can contact the same Razmael for potential placement in their buildings.

None of the following commands will work if there is no terrarium in the room with you.

TERRARIUM HELP
--------------
See the verbs in a handy non-helpfile reminder manner.

TERRARIUM <terrarium> OPEN
--------------
Open your terrarium! Only the owner may do this. Once open anyone can challenge the horrifying gauntlet within... so be careful about this. Don't leave them open. ANYONE CAN CHALLENGE. The winner gets the chest, not the owner of the terrarium! CAUTION

TERRARIUM <terrarium> CLOSE
---------------
Close an open terrarium. Again, limited to the owner.

TERRARIUM <terrarium> CHALLENGE <#> WITH <pet>
----------------------------------------------
Challenge the specified layer # with the pet listed. This is not able to be revoked, and may be done by anyone, as long as the terrarium is open. Again, YOUR PET MIGHT DIE. Be careful with this!

TERRARIUM <terrarium> MODIFY WITH <toolkit>
-------------------------------------------
Change your terrarium to a new biome! The new biome will have different ambient messages (with correspondingly different buffs) as well as challenges that focus on different pet stats.
