5.18 Protection
Protection represents an additional layer of health that must be depleted before your own health is harmed when facing off against denizens. When you gain protection, it forms a temporary reserve that absorbs incoming damage. Damage is removed from your protection first, and only the remaining damage, if any, is dealt to your health. For example, if you have 500 protection and suffer 700 damage, your protection will absorb 500 damage and the remaining 200 damage will be dealt to your health. After gaining protection, if it is not consumed through battle or other means, it will fade in 20 seconds. You can have a maximum of 100 protection, plus another 8 per level until level 100.
