5.19 Guard

Guard reduces incoming damage by a flat amount.

Unlike protection, guard does not create an additional health pool. Instead, each time you are struck, your guard reduces the damage of that hit by a fixed value.

For example, if you have 100 guard and suffer 700 damage, the damage is reduced by 100 and you suffer 600 damage instead.

Guard is most effective against repeated smaller attacks, since it reduces each hit individually. Against very large attacks, it still helps, but its effect will be less dramatic.

Guard cannot reduce more than half the damage from an attack that you receive from a denizen.

Guard has no effect against adventurers or adventurer loyal denizens.
