Cosmetics – our new trade skill!

Complementing the updated descriptions and characteristics system, we’re releasing a new trade skill: Cosmetics!

Whether you want to enhance your appearance or make others look fabulous, Cosmetics has something for you. The skill covers a wide range of preparations – from pigments and foundations to fake nails, eyelashes, wigs, and more. While it does launch with fewer base designs than others, the depth of the Cosmetics mechanics, its large number of craftable cosmetics, and our plans to evolve it with your ideas felt deserving of the full trade skill treatment. Make sure to check AB COSMETICS to see what’s available and how each product works.

To become a licensed cosmetist, head to Velvyi‘s shop, Sable and Smoulder, in Hatshero (v84307) and BUY COSMETICS PERMIT. This carries a fee of 100 credits and does not expire. You will also find designs and new crafting materials required for Cosmetics at her shop.

Like other trade skills, the initial permit is enough to get you started. Investing lessons up to Expert rank will allow you to create and submit custom designs to the crafters’ guild, while Transcendent rank unlocks the Specialist ability – letting you apply and remove cosmetics on other players – as well as the option to mark up to ten designs as exempt from decay. The higher your skill rank, the longer your applied cosmetics will last, too.

One thing to note for non-cosmetists: anybody can use cosmetics products once they have obtained them – you don’t need the skill to wear a wig or dab on some lipstick. Only to create them in the first place or apply them to others.

Releasing alongside Cosmetics are a few new artifacts to enhance your experience:

cosmetics_case – a blocky cosmetics storage case – Cost: 400cr

The storage case acts as an all-in-one container for almost all of your Cosmetic needs. Craft pigments and other cosmetic items directly into the case without the need to have a bunch of jars or containers, and then apply them directly from the case. Use CASE LIST to see what the case is holding. You can also CASE STORE or CASE STORE ALL to empty out all of your existing containers into the case. To apply from the case, you can simply APPLY [] , e.g. APPLY PINK LIPSTICK.

cosmetics_boon – a venantium-handled brushset – Cost: 400cr

On top of being a permanent brushset, this artifact will also double the number of Cosmetic items produced from the same number of commodities. It will also double the length of time Cosmetics you apply will last for, stacking with the bonus provided by the Specialist skill for applying to others.

cosmetics_mask – a facial mask of venantium-infused mud – Cost: 150cr

This mask provides a permanent effect of AB COSMETICS FACEMASK, allowing you to always have up to eight facial cosmetics applied at once.
