A Noble Day of Sport

Addressed to: Champion of the Towers, Sir Noon, General of the Sohei

Champion of the Towers,

Sir Noon, former friend and ally, it gives me great regret to see the
route you have chosen for yourself. You stood by my side as we razed the
walls of the city you now call home but I see your true sympathies have
changed to defending the weak. Nevertheless, despite my distaste for the
decisions you have made, it gives me great pleasure to hear your call
for combat. Because, even if I fall in battle against you or your
respective brethren, I shall do so gratefully, for I have the comfort of
knowing that I died honorably in a respectful duel against an Infernal
traitor and his shining comrades.

We do not question your prowess on the battlefield. In the past, many
Paladins have proven themselves to be adept in the art of combat. Our
only pity remains for their less than pernicious lifestyle. And although
they too are knights and thus also adhere to a strict code of honor, I
would be breaking my oath of honesty if I said that their interpretation
of righteousness didn't disgust me.

We Infernal Knights know that nothing worthy in this realm exists
without strength and discipline. Therefore, we look down upon weakness
with callous and insensitive eyes purging the defenseless and
exterminating the life which harbors it. Through this practice, we have
embraced darkness, just as you Paladins have embraced the light by
swearing to defend the helpless. And so, despite the fact that both our
guilds serve our beliefs with respect and honor, our ultimate goals
shall inevitably keep us divided, forced into an eternal struggle of
dark versus light. Consequentially, our guilds shall forever remain
sworn enemies.

Be it for your own vanity, or perhaps the everlasting aggression between
our two noble guilds, you have brought it upon yourself to issue us a
challenge. Your request is that any and all dark knights meet you
outside the arena to duel to the death. The purpose of this letter is to
inform you that in response to your bold challenge, and by the order of
the valiant Keeper of the Iron Citadel, Mistress Kylari Innaya issues a
counter challenge to your benevolent Master, that ALL Paladins meet the
Infernal Knights on the battlefield for a day of brave competition and
mortal combat. If it is a duel you desire, then you will receive it, and
so too will your brethren be blessed with the opportunity to meet their
foes.

May Strength, Honor, and Darkness embrace you.

Lord Keldrad Duses

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Haernos, in the year 237 MA.
