Clash of values.

This, it seems to me, is no longer simply concerned with the Fighting
Pit in Spinesreach; we have now veered into those dark waters that all
know embrace the prow of the ship, but few look into, preferring (as
most of us do!) the comfort of the skies above to the chill of the black
sea beneath. I am speaking of the clash in value systems that must
inevitably occur when Forestals and City-dwellers identify an area of
prime concern on the part of one or the other.
What I think is most interesting here is the way the meat of the matter
reveals itself in the temperaments of each Aetolian who comments. Ethics
are a matter of much flexibility in Sapience - I have (thankfully) yet
to come across any texts on the subject in any of the libraries I have
visited. But I am sure there is a common ethos we can all agree on,
regardless of class, and that would be the furtherance of a higher cause
by way of articulate, measured dialogue. This ethos, I hardly need add,
ideally operates independently from whatever issue happens to be at
hand. The c[C[C[C[C[C[C[C[C The clash in ideology I referred to above
will never fall, neatly folded as this morning's linens, into tidy
partitions. It will always be there, and will always manifest itself to
one degree or another. Speaking personally, it's the crackling tension
that the conflict engenders that I find so often rewarding, particularly
when I confront its nature not simply externally (which is easy enough)
but within my own confines.
I wish well to all and sundry.
