The first and most important thing in ruling is to convince those that
you rule that they wish to be ruled. You must win there trust and there
love you must convince them that they are happy with you in power. You
must give the illusion of freedom and at the same time a sense of
justice. You must let those that do "good" continue to do so and punish
those that do "wrong". But first you must convince the people of what is
"good" and what is "wrong". This process must begin by giving the people
what they want, for a ruler will never truly succeed without patience.
Then when the people love you for giving them there freedom and your
trust the rest will happen on its own. They will ask you for justice
from the bad, this is when you begin to shape what is right and wrong.
You must first ask the people what they think is just and fair. And you
must give it to them. And eventually they will ask you for justice once
more and again you will ask them what they think is just and give it to
them. Then the people will think you are soft and will ask for justice
once again and you will ask them what they think is just and you will
give it to them once again. And the people will then know that you are
soft and they will take advantage of that by asking for new justice that
is not the same justice as they once asked for. And you must point this
out to them and suggest that they speak amongst themselves and decide
what they really think is just and fair. Then the people will debate and
argue and you will sit and listen to it all and you will offer your
suggestions then. Subtly you will infuse the conversation with your
ideas and ideals. And they will listen to you for you are the just and
fair ruler and now they will know that you are not soft but smart. They
will know this buy the fact that you were able to see there attempt to
use you to there advantage and this will cause them to think 2 things
one that you are intelligent and trust worthy for you have given them
what they want when they ask for it and nothing else. And 2 they will
think that they can still use this situation for there own purposes.
This will cause them to be greedy and they will begin to argue amongst
themselves about what they will decide is just depending on there own
purposes. But the one thing that they will not know is that they will be
trying to decide on which of your ideals and ideas are right and which
are wrong. For you will have fused the conversation with them slowly and
subtly from the beginning until there was nothing else. Once the
arguments start to get out of hand you will raise your hand to silence
them and they will quiet. And you will offer them compromise by asking
each of them what it is that they want and throwing out the
contradictions if possible and if not simply throwing out the one that
you see as more of a disagreement with your ideals. If there is any
complaint you will answer that due to the circumstances you must be the
decider for if they continue to argue they will never agree. They will
see this as true and just for you are the fair and trustworthy ruler
that has given them what it is that they desire when they ask for it.
And finally in the end all you will have to do is decide which of your
ideals you see to be the best and everyone will be happy. There is one
more thing you will have to do to keep your new rule forever you have to
continue to give the people what they want you must continue to give the
people the justice that they ask for when they ask for it. Give a little
and they will not think to take more. This is the most important thing
to remember and when they think you are soft they will ask for a little
more than usual and you will give it to them and they will know you are
soft and will try to change things and you will begin the debates once
again. So remember give a little and they will not think to take more,
and make them believe that they are happy with you in power. Fail to do
either of these things and your kingdom will fall with time and turn to
dust. Power is a frail thing a fleeting thing that has but to be seen to
be destroyed.
