a call for sanctorium designs

Addressed to: Everyone
Faithful friends,
I begin by extending the gratitude of all Mrenadhi to those of you whose
extreme generosity spurred you to offer so many donations to our modest
village, even though your knowledge of our troubles, our mere existence
in fact, was only years ago gained. We have graciously accepted your
assistance and, in many cases, found a way to resolve our debts - to the
Sentaari, by allowing them to witness one of our sacred texts in
profound ceremony; to the sect of Niuri, by continuing construction on
the tower of glass to the west; and to the City of Spinesreach, by
allowing them to station their archers in our territory and profit from
materials they have been able to obtain - and deepen friendships
recently forged.
Our village has prospered significantly thanks to all your wonderful
efforts, and while we will continue to honor further contributions to
our village, our need for outside donations is no longer so dire. Those
villagers displaced by the great flood of the year 116 have found homes
and the necessities of life once more. While I pray to the Divine that
it might be my destiny to see the southern part of our village rebuilt,
perhaps with the knowledge and labor of some of our new neighbors in
Sapience, we have managed to reach a stability that would have been
impossible on our own. As ever, my father Meyrkar will be accepting any
gifts the Gods inspire you to bring us.
In addition to the material goods you have sacrificed to us, some of you
have shared your wealth by giving us Mrenadhi aid in the form of gold.
We are deeply grateful for your sentiments; however, our simple way of
life does not permit gold itself in large quantities to ameliorate our
problems. Ever mindful of the dictates taught to us by the Alizarin
Order, I and my advisors have sought a use for this gold that serves the
philosophies of devotion and art to which we adhere. We have decided
upon a noble opportunity that involves the rest of Sapience.
We the Mrenadhi are a Gods-loving people, and we feel it is our
privilege to worship the Divine. Therefore, we would like to see this
gold used in the construction of two sanctoriums. A sanctorium is a
structure of faith and divine devotion, much like godly shrines, only
built by Mortal hands and not fashioned as a conduit of pure Divine
essence. It is our hope that they be placed in locations particularly
lacking in Divine worship, to be used as a place for local people to
gather if they wish to be inspired, or if they seek a peaceful place to
contemplate, or for other assorted pious uses.
I am certain that the people of Sapience have far greater knowledge
about this world than we, and that you would be best suited to determine
where the sanctoriums would serve the most purpose and be used fully, as
well as in what image it would be best to build them. And so the
Mrenadhi people call upon you to offer your suggestions to us concerning
the design and location of the two sanctoriums. Some of the other small
villages might well be suitable locations, of course, yet we are open to
hearing ideas both conventional and creative.
I ask you to cast your thoughts towards proposals for these sanctoriums:
where they should be constructed, how they will be perceived by their
beholders, and why this combination of location and appearance is a
fitting tribute to the Gods. The two submissions that are deemed most
inspired, as judged by our village elders and myself, will be granted
the use of seventy-five thousand gold sovereigns each to see to the
construction of the sanctoriums. My advisors assure me that this sum
should be more than ample to create worthy and inspiring constructions.
Once the creations are complete, those to whom this responsibility have
been entrusted will be allowed to retain any remaining gold, as a reward
for their devotion and management.
Please meditate upon this calling and put your proposals to parchment,
then seek out Zaochten, the young librarian of Mrenadh, and hand your
letters to him. He will be accepting your suggestions until the end of
this 135th year.
I wish you all Divine inspiration in helping to better this world we now
share. In deepest faithfulness,
Yairio, priestess of Mrenadhi
Penned by my hand on the 17th of Arios, in the year 135 MA.
