When all you've loved has betrayed you...

interesting now to hear you cry out
lover's lament, painful doom
thinking that no one else understands
this twisting of faithful heart
writhing helplessly on fate's loom

and still something in me wanted
to reach out, to extend the comforting
arms of fellowship and kindness
hoping beyond all hope that you
would not fall apart into the pitiful
fragmented being you once were.

but the young woman I've hid
behind layers of years
and good friends
and accomplishments pale
knocked on the door of
my understanding and screamed out
Did not this same, poor stricken being
betray the tenderness of friendship rare?

Yes, 'twas tenderness I needed from you
and what I thought you needed from me
and so now I laugh at those stupid
enough to trust you, who might even
think you had changed
while they have no understanding
of the cruelty and deceit that lies in your tongue

I may wish with all that I am now
to forgive you
but the acid you poured into my
heart that was so splayed open
when you pretended to be my friend
burned me far to badly
to ever trust you again.....

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Arios, in the year 128 MA.
