Ode to the Durdalis

Stoic guardian, rise and wake! the radiant sun warms you
The softer of sunrise, carves and accentuates every crag run true
The ladybug, the sweetling finch, the water's murmurs bid you stand
Wandering slowly, pondering in earthen dreams, you cross the land
Chiseled by the ancients of time, wind, and rain, your fair breadth;
Where you have chiseled lichen on the paths on my soul

I quake in the fall of your approach, where standing tall you stare
Silent warden of life's blooming gate, you speak, deeply of its roots
Severe and gentle, precious stones, they form more resilient recruits
Impenetrable, impassable, your strength girds the very air

And all of hope's earth has known your song;
from seed to sky
As birds we perch nearby
For when with purpose for however long
Your sightless eyes watch and wait
To remind me to carve in my heart and skin memories of life

Penned by my hand on Quensday, the 8th of Ivolnos, in the year 3 AC.
