11.4 Celani

Celani are immortal servants of the Gods and unseen stewards of the realm. They assist in maintaining and creating reality, as well as performing other functions, such as chronicling history in Aetolia.

If you are interested in becoming a Celani of the illustrious Pools, our door is always open! We no longer run limited Celani calls and will entertain applications any time of the year.

Celani is a volunteer position where you help shape the world of Aetolia in various ways, including eventually taking on a roleplay position as one of our Gods. It's a heavily team-oriented role, whereby you will be expected to support other members of the team in various projects and/or events, as well as work through a series of your projects and tasks aimed at teaching you the ropes of how to work autonomously in the Pools environment, including how to use our scripting language.

To be a great Celani, you need to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative, willing to embrace a challenge, and above all, have a deep love for Aetolia and a strong desire to contribute to the world. Strong writing skills are a must (see below), and the ability to take constructive feedback is essential. Many ideas are rejected in the search for the perfect suggestion, and everyone's work is scrutinised to ensure a high standard of writing quality.

Equally important is a willingness and ability to collaborate with a team. The Pools is a highly collaborative environment, and "lone wolves" tend not to thrive.

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be 18 years or older IRL.
- You must have at least 500 hours of playing time. Exceptional candidates can sometimes be exempt from this requirement, although we would prefer to consider veteran players who believe they have valuable insights to share through their memories and experiences.
- Be willing to sign an NDA and give up your character for the duration of your tenure.

Applications should be sent to celani@aetolia.com with the following information:

1. Your real name.
2. Your real age.
3. Your occupation (or course of study if you're a student).
4. Your character(s) in Aetolia.
5. Why do you think we should make you a Celani and perhaps eventually a God?
6. Why do you want to be a Celani, knowing that you will need to cut ties with other players?

The above point is perhaps the most important of all when considering a future as a Celani. Potential applicants should seriously consider their ability to detach from existing social networks and establish new ones in a different environment. Specifically, this involves leaving any Aetolia-based Discord servers or Discord servers where Aetolia is a frequent subject of discussion. While it can be challenging, this level of separation is essential for a smooth transition into the team and is something we take very seriously. This does not mean you have to cut all contact with Aetolian players; it would be cruel and impossible to demand that you give up your friends to be a volunteer for us. However, Aetolia should not be something you discuss with them if you can help it, as player opinions often make it very hard to adopt the universal or big-picture mindset we ask our Celani to utilise when helping run events or produce features for their passion projects.

In addition, please include any four of the following in your application:

- Any special experience you have outside of Aetolia that you feel may be useful in a Celani position.
- Two flawless room or denizen descriptions of 80+ words each. Please be sure to have read HELP STYLE GUIDELINES before submitting these. Do not skip this!
- A brief outline for two original and engaging quests. These can be situated in an existing area or a hypothetical new area. I'm looking for more than simple fetch or killing quests here.
- A brief outline for an RP event, roughly 100 to 200 words in length. This should be smaller in scope than an events post, more something that makes a single city have a fun few days and talk about inside their orgs.
- A brief outline for a passion project you believe would be achievable through our prog system; think something along the lines of special order skills, identity systems, a special questing area, a collection of troublesome items circulating throughout the game, etc. Go wild! Don't think about what is and isn't possible, we have plenty of experienced prog people who would love to help you tackle that one day.
- A skill message in the game you find boring, made more interesting!
- A sample global emote of 2-3 lines describing something momentous happening; go big or go home!

Play to your strengths and utilise these four additions to showcase your creativity - and most of all, have fun with it!
