Public News Post #855

warning, response to previous posts

Written by: Spirokai
Date: Tuesday, December 31st, 2002
Addressed to: Everyone

Apparently, many of you are completely unaware of the history between
Duiran and the former FFoS/RL. A detail-encompassing version of this
history is available in previous public posts (594, for example), so it
is suggested those of you who wish to speculate about why these things
are occurring take the time to peruse past related posts before talking
about things you do not know. Addendum: Taryn has, prior to this note,
posted a relatively accurate version of what occured. You may
cross-reference his note to the previous public posts.

Sorry for the delayed response, but when over half of anti-RL posts
consist of propaganda and factless assertions one tends to stop
discriminating between any number of posts revolving around the same
theme: Hate on RL.

First off, Khalay, your post was the only "anti-RL" that presented a new
angle. Coincidentally, it means that the response to you will be the
most lengthy. However, that doesn't your post was accurate. The gist of
your post is as follows:

1) Spirokai wishes to free the world from the Duiran Council/Haern's
influence.
2) A device/skill (exterminate) is being used to achieve his goals.
3) Spirokai was originally enemied to Duiran for killing Druids and
Sentinels.
4) Given that the above assessment is correct, the below speculation
(#5) is probable.
5) Spirokai assumed a defensive posture, falling back upon Ulangi.
6) An incomplete assessment of Ulangi's benefits. (A few key details
were left out, but their inclusion wasn't necessary for the overall
purpose of your post)
7) Given what you believe to be facts, you do not fully comprehend
Spirokai's "logic."
8) A theme assertion that RL will exterminate if its assets are
threatened or harmed.
9) A statement of your combat clashes with Spirokai.
10) An assertion that the loss of herbs is secondary, if
inconsequential, to Spirokai.
11) Primary reason for #10: Fool Tarot.
12) Appeal to authority ("I have spoken to several scholars") regarding
Fool Tarot.
13) Questioning of RL's choice of Ulangi.
14) Declares that the only answer that "fits" #13 is because Spirokai
desires essence, which is supposedly primarily gained through
exterminating the rejuvenated areas.
14b) Declares that Spirokai best attempts to support #14 through killing
others in order to antagonize them into rejuvenating.
15) As 12, 13, 14, and 14b "make sense," what is "logically" going on is
that RL wants to kill people and gain power from doing so.
16) RL appears to be doing everything in its power to promote its
killing of others.
17) The populace appears to be playing directly into RL's agenda.
18) Question of whether or not pre-emptive offensives against RL would
actually aid RL in its agenda.

Re:

1) At this current time, RL has no desire to "free the world" from
anything. Furthermore, we don't understand how plants have anything to
do with Duiran or Haernite "hold on Aetolia." Plants are a crucial
component in neither organization's mechanics. The closest idea that one
comes to is that Duiran requires plants in order for their defenses to
work. This is not true. Duiran requires a room to possess "forest
essence." This forest essence does not require plants that are harvested
from the ground. That said, your first question is a moot one, because
we are 1) Not intending to "free the world" at the moment, and the
"thing" we are "destroying" is not very central at all to their "hold."
Another argument that can be raised is that herbs are indeed crucial to
their "hold," because herb supply is a tool that these organizations use
to maintain control. If that is true, then such an organization is far
from worthy of being respected- especially if it is using the "herb
card" as a means to a corrupt end. If anything, you may believe that was
are attempting to put balance within the realm, a counter to the
overbearing power that our opponents wield. As a (former?) monk, you
should appreciate this more than anyone.
2) Correct (one of the few)
3) Wrong, refer to Taryn's post or previous public posts (see beginning
of note).
4) #1 and #3 were incorrect, but even assuming they were true it should
not affect #5.
5) Falling back signifies a need to re-consolidate military resources in
the context it is used. The former FFoS had no such need.
6) Aside from a few key missing details, this assessment is accurate.
7) Since a good deal of what you believe to be "facts" are untrue, you
should re-evaluate your comprehension.
8) Extermination is one tool in RL's repertoire, true. However, it is
not the only one.
9) True. There were approximately 3 (maybe 4?) clashes. The first one
was when you initiated the fight with Spirokai and a brief struggle
ensued before your death. The second one resulted in you jumpkicking
Spirokai's shield, him looking at you, blinking, then killing you (you
did not get another hit in). The third clash, which resulted in your
death, occurred in Delos where you voluntarily went into Vinci's tattoo
parlor and attempted to harm Spirokai via mindlock afflictions. Spirokai
sent his entities into your room and shut the door.
10) Herb loss is a primary concern to all people, including RL. However,
we are not going to subjugate ourselves to pro-forest influence because
the herb card was pulled out. The former FFoS refused to bow down to
Duiran because it was corrupt, greedy, and oppressive to those weaker
than them. While the RL acknowledges and respects its predecessor's
views, it comes secondary to that of RL's policy of protecting its own.
Either way, it translates into "RL will not cow to such groups as
Duiran."
11) Since herb loss IS a primary concern, fool tarot is not the reason
it (herb loss) isn't.
12) Your scholars were idiots, or they were fooling around with you for
their entertainment.
13) There are other significant benefits that resulted in both the
former FFoS and the current RL's choice of Ulangi. However, the use of
13 to somehow "prove" 14 is a bit flawed, because...
14) Neither Spirokai nor other necromancy users in RL desires essence.
Sure it wouldn't hurt, but our primary goal is safety.
14b) Thus far, just about every RL incursion has been a defensive one.
Alastra has been assaulted first for nearly every physical confrontation
(excluding landmarks) since this conflict began, and Spirokai has
personally killed less than 10 people (excluding landmarks as well).
Less than 3 of them were for rejuvenation/extermination related issues.
15) 12 through 14b do not "make sense" because they aren't true. 15
itself is also wrong. Please refer to above items.
16) Wrong, refer to above items.
17) If the populace was "playing" into RL's agenda, RL wouldn't still be
in a state of alert.
18) Pre-emptive offensives against RL would probably harm it, since our
agenda is that of security.

Duntherk, your post was mostly an appeal at emotion through herbs,
especially under the pretense that RL will expand from Ulangi should
Ulangi be "ceded" to the Legion. RL has no desire to expand off Ulangi,
because no other place is suitable for our inhabitation. Please refer to
RL's previous responses to the (its almost a standard propaganda line)
"One can't give away what isn't his/hers/its" line that every anti-RL
has learned by heart by now. As for your appeal to the populace through
herbs, RL informs of the populace of this:

The organization(s) that Renegade Legion is being assaulted by have
proven themselves to be corrupt, totalitarian, greedy, and power-hungry.
Many of you present now have no knowledge of the crimes that these
organizations have committed in the past, for history is written by
those in power. These organizations loathe to give up anything they have
gained, and they use such tools as "protecting the forest" and herbs to
try and rally support against people they feel are a threat. The power
granted to them is mishandled by those wielding it, an example coming
from the recent Vengence incident.

RL will never abandon its own, not even to a stronger power such as
Duiran. It will not sell itself out for the sake of herbs. Our
opposition desires that you "look at the big picture" and "think about
herbs." Renegade Legion urges you to look at the even bigger picture,
and think about how our opponents wield almost absolute power with their
control over the forests and plant supply. Some of you will no doubt
bend over backwards, whether for herbs, for your genuine (and stupid)
belief that their policies are "right," or a combination of both. But
those of you that have seen Duiran's past deeds need just to look at the
way power flows in the realm to realize that, if there is an
organization at fault here, it is not the Legion.

A number of individuals have made an appeal to authority by claiming
that their "need" to rejuvenate comes from "divine" (most likely
Duiran's 2 patrons) decree. If you want to proceed along this logical
fallacy by appealing to immortals, how about it be pointed out that
extermination is an ability implemented within the realm by the ultimate
authority, Varian himself. While I cannot speak for anyone outside the
Legion, I don't feel that Varian added in a skill for the purpose of
people NOT using it. I don't think extermination was instated by Varian
so that lesser immortals (unless one wishes to contest that any immortal
has greater authority than Varian) -much less an organization- could
restrict something that he doubtlessly put in for a reason (and no, you
rejuvenators, "not using the skill [extermination]" is not a valid
reason). You see where this can go? Appealing to authority is THE most
abundant flaw anti-RL parties possess. One can always spot this sort of
blathering in over half of anti-legion posts. Stuff like "its my job,
given to me by the forest" and "its mother nature's will" have become
all but expected when dealing with those such as you.

Sceverus, I did indeed tell you that RL chose Ulangi because it offered
important benefits that the Legion could utilize. If you did not hear
it, it is certainly not my fault.

Irruel, if you allow us to live in peace on Ulangi, at the very most we
will limit exterminations to Ulangi itself. We will tend after our own
herbs, rejuvenate in our interests, and basically arrange it so you
needn't worry about us exterminating outside of the island. These
details were discussed with your negotiator, Bliss. If she did not
inform you of them, its your own group's fault for being so incompetant
in terms of internal communication. Thus, only by continuing to assault
RL will you reduce the availability of herbs in the world. Should you
let us be, there will be no need for further destruction.

All things aside, you people do have a point when you...wait, nevermind,
I was reading the responses- You people have no good points. Still, one
can't argue with such obviously well-thought out work. Especially in
light of your best presentation (Khalay's) being so well-researched and
grounded in fact. After all, less than 50% accurate isn't bad, right?
Don't let such a small thing like you being utterly brainwashed (yes,
you are) get in the way of your continued attempts to make your side
seem less corrupt than it already is.

End note.

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Severin, in the year 89 MA.
