I remember this time you speak of. I also remember that pills, or rather, the raw plants we used to cure with, being a lot more expensive because they were not so hardy and there was the worry of strip harvesting.

But those times are over with. Things have changed with improvements into curatives. With these changes come new prices. Being stuck in the past does nothing for anyone.

If someone wishes to lose money by using gold bars for their elixirs, that is their choice. It is not on you to tell people how to run their business. If you are unwilling to get with the times, you will become obsolete. Grow. Become more than what you were. Or not, and continue to complain. The choice is yours.
