The Consanguine

My dear Strung,
I am daily amused by your displays of utter idiocy. You are nothing more
than an uncivilized thug, whose only purpose in life is the oppression
of others. You are a blemish to the Paladin guild. The Paladins are
supposed to stand for honour - what are you? You are a petty thief, one
who takes the meager possessions of even the youth of aetolia. But most
of all, you are a thief because you steal from the people of Shallam the
very peace you claim to protect.
I have been a proud member of the Consanguine Empire from the first few
months of its founding. I remember well those 'early days'. The days
when you and your brainwashed followers ran into Bloodloch, your mouth
frothing with an animal panic. You did not understand us, nor did you
wish to. Your instinct was that of a savage - the Consanguine were a new
power which threatened yours. We were a force you could not understand,
and so you feared, and as the most primitive caveman, your reaction to
that fear was destruction. Destroy everything you do not know. We are
not animals for you to hunt. We are not beasts. We are and always were a
proud, strong, deadly group.
I watched in cold anger as you slaughtered our weak, our young, our
servants and my family. For you and yours did precisely what you accuse
us of doing. You are an uncivilized primitive with no understanding of
anything but the stick. And now you wish to drag your reasonable
citymates into it? I make a very clear distinction between Shallam and
your quest. I find many Shallamites intelligent, reasonable, cultured
people with a sense of respect - which me and my brethen grant them in
return. You rush in, attack us, insult us, then call us the villains?
You will get whetever you give to us threefold. For every consanguine
dead by your blind hatred, you have and will be slaughtered. Come to us
with respect, and you will be granted respect. Come to us peacefully,
and we will not harm you. But we will protect ourselves and our own.
For all others who may read these words, understand that we are not
monsters. We are as varied a group as Ashtan or Shallam. There are those
of us who are fighters, those of us who are diplomats, shopkeepers,
historians, scholars, explorers. But we are all Consanguine. We are not
the enemy unless you make us thus. Trade with us, talk with us, work
with us, give us respect, and we will not be a threat. But one must
truly be a fool to step on the dragon's tail, tell it the pain is the
dragon's fault for having a tail, and expect to not be turned into a
well done steak.
