Addressed to: Everyone
This is an open missive for the benefit of those who used to be Magi -
Magi in face, perhaps, but not in spirit.
It has been approximately twenty years since momentous decisions were
placed before us, together with glimpses into our past, pressures of the
present and promises for the future. Some of you were too young to be
Magi then, and some of you were too inexperienced to be cognisant of all
that these decisions entailed. Yet the Council of Elemental Purity chose
our path, as it is bound to do; in turn, we are bound by its choices.
For some inexplicable reason, this simple notion remains beyond your
comprehension. You speak instead of wanting to reverse decisions long
since set in stone. You recite short-sighted, idealistic longings for a
neutrality that is no longer feasible, while in the same breath you
reject the undead Magi and urge them to 'be cured of their stagnant
forms'. What sort of hypocritical neutrality is that? Finally - and
perhaps, most cruelly - you preach about acting in the guild's best
interests as you stifle and polarise it with your divisive thoughts.
Given my position within the guild, it would be wholly negligent of me
to stand idly by and observe my guild progress along a path that is
touted as a panacea for its ills but serves to re-open old wounds and
inflict new pains. Twenty years of dissent and disunity is twenty years
too many: it is time for all concerned to live with the consequences of
their actions.
