To the Hunters

Written by: Dorla, a robed woman

Addressed to: Everyone

A few months ago I tried to arrange a meeting with your leadership. I
had hoped to try to negotiate and come to a mutual agreement to prevent
the slaughter of my people. During this meeting, everything I said was
ignored, I was repeatedly insulted and verbally attacked. You leave me
no options.

Yes, I walk the Path of Undeath. Yes, I hope to cleanse and restore
Tasur'ke to the home it once was. These two things are unrelated; the
fact that I am undead has no bearing on who I am or how I feel.

Decades ago Tasur'ke was the center of the 'Totem War'. An ambitious
elder of Tasur'ke desired to expand the village and instead of
negotiating, Tasur'ke and the Haernites settled their differences
through battle. But I am not here to argue history.

It is not 'natural' for a town to be overrun by plantlife; it is not
natural for trees to destroy fountains and it is most certainly not
natural for spectral animals to attack people visiting our home. The
fact of the matter is that the people of Tasur'ke wish to rebuild their
home. Other villages exist, other settlements chop down trees and
cleared areas to build their homes. They are not persecuted. Why then
are we?

The only difference I see between Tasur'ke and any other village is my
Path. I have done everything possible to protect and nurture those that
are close to me. Does the simple fact that I am undead mean that in your
eyes I must be evil? I do not force my choices or beliefs on people. I
help those that come to me seeking advice and I try to make the Path
easier for those that wish to walk it. I try to prevent them having to
suffer as I have suffered.

You who ruined Tasur'ke so long ago now come to my home and slaughter
without hestitation, without even attempting to learn the circumstances.
I do not wish for conflict. I do not wish to see more needless death and
suffering - I have been subject to far more than anyone should ever have
to experience. All we desire is the right to build our homes and live
our lives in peace and safety as others are permitted to do.

If you, if any of you, continue to slaughter the innocent people of my
home then we will be forced to defend ourselves by whatever means
necessary. If my people suffer then so shall yours.

Dorla, Speaker for the townspeople of Tasur'ke

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Midsummer, in the year 188 MA.
