The Pit

Though my topic is "The Pit" my post is not entirely based on it.
I have been reading the public posts and after a lull in postings I
decided I would write something. I am neither for or against the pit in
any fashion because it does not concern me in the slightest. I am not a
citizen of Spinesreach nor do I frequent the area, nor do I have an
attachment for the animals or the people involved.
This is a question not about cruelty but on who deserves to live more,
the animals or the people running the pit. The animals in nature would
have to kill to survive anyway, though you would consider this choice,
it is not. In nature, while asleep even, another predator could just as
easily enter and it would be a fight to the death. I see no difference
from natural living and the pit other than the frequency is not as
varied and the winning animal is fed and maintained.
The ones who run this pit use it as a main source of income, or at least
it funds the others who take part in it. Denying them their pit, which
they have placed in an area out of reach, would drastically hurt their
chances to continue living.
Though if you wish to think of it in another way, the people who run the
pit have hunted and captured the animals with their own strengths and
therefore the animals' lives are in their hands. They would be eaten,
used for fur, or used for whatever would give them what they require. In
this case, the animal is allowed to continue living as long as it has
the will and strength to defeat its adversary. This brings wealth to the
one who had captured the creature and allows that person to eat or feed
his family.
The situation is not so one-sided as many see it. The fights are not as
cruel as many other things I have witnessed, which are accepted, in this
world. Due to the fact that the pit is not conducted in the open public,
is not forced upon anyone, that the beasts are captured by those who run
this pit - which if not captured they would most surely be killed or
maimed another way, possibly by someone killing in that area to increase
their own experience - and that one can not favor the people nor the
beasts more, the only beings who have say in this matter are those of
the city of Spinesreach because it is held in that area.
Those who attend and generally enjoy seeing this, have nothing to
protest. Those who find it cruel for the animals should understand that
it is not their place to decide the moral law for others who have it
harder than they and it is advised they should ignore it. If you do not
like something which has nothing to do with you, simply state your
protest to those directly involved and move along your business.
Finally, I am neither for or against this pit. It is simply another
facet of the world which we must come to accept or not. If it offends,
then attempt to not do it. If it pleases, then pursue it. If it offends
and pleases others, then remember to not force change on those who
pursue pleasure, but bring about change in yourself and spread an
example.
