Sentients,
Several months ago I decided to take a brief venture into one of the
older caverns of the Azdun dungeon complex. I had been taking such
monthly excursions for a good amount of time, in the hopes of uncovering
more of the history of My kind. On this particular visit, however, I
stumbled upon a passage I'd not been able to traverse in times past, due
apparently to the layered magical shields that had surrounded the
entrance hall. Besides the various bone carvings and tattered wall
scrolls I was able to procure from about the cluttered passage, I found
a certain book, bound up tight in red leather, whose title I was able to
recognize. This work, Numen ex Strages, as it is called in the texts,
has thus held me captivated for the months since.
Though initially I was presented with a number of difficulties in so
much as unlatching the cover, I have been able to utilize several
prophetic scrolls I acquired a number of years ago to translate the
majority of the runes in which the book was written. Unfortunately, the
dialects seem to change often, and I have come to the conclusion that
the book was written by more than a single author. As such, work on the
translation has been slow, at best. The greatest impediment to my
progress, however, has been the pages that seem deliberately removed
from place whenever I am about to come upon an important revelation in
the text.
It seems, however, that the same individuals who sought to dissuade
others from using the text have provided a means of unlocking its
secrets. On the pages preceding the missing ones, there are a number of
hand-scrawled footnotes in more familiar dialects. The notes seem to
indicate that the authors removed the pages and allocated them
throughout the realm, placing the individual pages in coffins and
burying them to avoid anyone from digging them up by accident. The notes
also give bits of riddle, so as to hint to those with intelligent minds
of where one may search for the missing pages.
While I would far prefer to simply decipher the locations of the pages
Myself and dig them up personally, I still have a great deal of text to
decipher, and I have little time to waste on such exploits. As such, I
will be offering a number of rather substantial rewards to any
individuals who may be able to aid me in locating the pages I seek. The
pages must be verified as real by Myself, and I will be able to tell if
they are simple forgeries. You do not want Me to find you trying to pass
forgeries. It will not be pleasant.
The following are the relevant lines of text, in as good a translation
as I am able at this time, that should help in locating the pages.
1. ...veiled tight in stone/betwixt the stars and soil/resolve the
lone/a tower with to toil...
2. ...two eyes to stare/the river black with soot/the light a solemn
fare/a curse on it to put...
3. ...winged like dragon cousin kind/a flower field to bury/above the
wartorn landscape find/the pillar of the wary...
4. ...a grove of gold/by sea of song/a depth untold/yet filled with
throng...
5. ...stone of magic/felled by fright/the King's own attic/lit up by
night...
Again, the rewards for the location of the missing pages will be well
worth the time of those who wish to aid Me in this venture. If you feel
the need to question Me for further information, know that I will only
share what I feel can be safely shared. Information such as this could
be...detrimental, in the hands of my adversaries.
