Public News Post #3555

The Months the Heartwood Burned

After long consideration I decided to add my two cent on this matter,
even if some people would prefer if this public debate dies away. I know
that it is unfitting to make comments like "you asked for that" or "see,
I told you" after all the damage that was done, so I'll only neutrally
comment on the last 19 posts. For those not interested in reading my way
to long post, the most important part is at the end.

(Wedric) - Whether you agree to his actions, disagree or don't care at
all, it was pretty obvious this was going to happen sooner or later and
will happen again, and again and again untill he get's what he wants.
After all burning the forest doesn't cost him anything and you simply
seem unable stop him.

(Tilanna) - That the whole affair, if it wasn't solved, would lead into
another herb ban was obvious as well, what appears odd beside the
emotinal outburst is the that you didn't say "until WE have him under
control" but generalized it to include everyone.

(Saltzmaul) - Yes Wedric's only demand is to be unenemied to the Duiran
so he can harvest again.

(Veovis) - While I find it a bit odd to compare vampires to herbs, he
correctly pointed out that actions have consequences and that the public
is not interested in fighting duiran's fights

On a side note when will the consanguine unite properly and take some
determined action to solve the "vampire" problem and not only talk about
it?

(Rhaea) - You're wrong in numerous ways. The duiran does defines it's
existence as protector of the wilderness and each time the forest burns
and you didn't prevent, you have failed yourself. I will come down to
either sacrificing some of the authority of the durain by giving in to
wedric's demands or failing your mandate. As for Wedric hurting the
realm and not the durain, that's not simply not true. The Durain has
turned the selling of herbs into a profitable business, one that Wedric
targets. But since the the loss of herbs does affect me, my allies and
my enemies equally, the situation might have changed, but the balance is
preserved.

(Hadur) - A very accurate statement on the sense and non-sense of herb
bans and the pressure attached to them.

(Daskalos) - While the durain did not actually ask for help, they
implied it. As for the rest of your post, it's a bit sad that you try to
break this complex affair down to black and white sterotypes that will
only hinder a solution. As for the divine getting involved, I doubt it.
This seem to be a very mortal affair where the duiran did not use it's
chance to solve a matter before it escalated. As for Wedric getting
bored, for that the durain would have to stop caring about the forest
first.

(Irruel) - On the contrary, the duiran has no chance but to give in
sooner or later. Wedric can keep this up forever if he likes. While I
can understand that you're not interested in replanting, the next step
will be to stop caring about forest fires, since after all they'll burn
again soon. Is that where you are heading?

(Caspien) - While your post is very interesting, it has one major flaw.
As already stated, since the herb ban affect allies and enemies equally,
the only ones hurt are those making money from herbs. Also I know for a
fact that the duiran as a group has by far the largest store of herbs in
the realm, so simply stating the contrary for the sake of arguments is
an insult to the public intelligence.

(Kerian) - A very good post.

(Revelin) - True one day almost almost of us will be out of herbs. It
will be interesting to see how the balance in power shifts then. May we
all life in interesting times.

(Talonnb) - I'm not sure a public post asking to solve things privately
makes much sense and generally your posts offers no new insides while it
only looks like a weak attempt to sway Wedric's mind.

(Winger) - Awesome post *smile*

(Reecillia) - If you wouldn't ask hefty prices for the herbs you harvest
but shared them free and equally someone might believe that "benefector
of the public", but as things look right now it's pure propaganda. And
you figured out that Wedric is not a nice guy anymore? It makes no
difference. It still comes down to what I already explained in my Rhaea
statement and the public will be eager to see if the durain values it's
pride over the safety of the forest.

(Martika) - I'll take an example on martika's post and try to keep it
short from now on.

(Malhavoc) - The Duiran has already beated Wedric down more then 30
levels during the Morgun conflict and it did not stop him at all. You
can only kill him once after he rejects grace to burn the forest , and
even if you manage beat him back to Minia, it won't make any difference.
I do not know how much mana or stamina you need to start a fire but you
can't keep wedric below level 25 except if you send novices after him
into Minia and I'm pretty sure he has enough power to start a few fires
even at that level. As for the slaying of Amelia, you'll have to
understand that killing a defenseless creature like her has
consequences, even if you would like to move on and ignore them.

(Vasilus) - Very true. As for fixing things, the Cabal has already
discussed and evaluated the history of the conflict, the moral
implications of the various position and it's possible consequences.
While we agreed to disagree on the more philosophical aspects, it was
broad consence that to solve the conflict a compromise is needed. The
Cabal offers to act as a neutral mediator in this conflict between the
two sides involved. If there is interest in taking this offer send a
message or a tell to myself, the Conduit of Knowledge or any other
Maestro and we'll task a group of suitably skilled Cabalists to see to
it.
