The Order of Lord Haern is proud to announce the Great Hunt, a hunting
contest to be held during the month of Haernos!

Those who hunt down the largest number of different wild animals will
win prizes! All who enter will come away with a small prize. There will
be a small entry fee (500gp per person) which will be used as prize
money for the winners. To register, just find Jheranti, Seneschal of the
Great Hunt (he will be standing at North of Trees for the duration of
the contest) and give him the entry fee. You can also give him extra
money to donate to the prize pool if desired.

The Rules:

1. Your objective is to find and hunt a large variety of wild animals.
Duplicates don't count -- one elk is as good as another.

2. Only wild animals count. That means no bandits, Drakt, fishermen,
Mhuns, orcs, etc. It also means no loyal entities.

3. Different types of the same class of animals (e.g., different kinds
of snakes) do count. But the same animal living in different areas
(e.g., Aureliana bears and Aalen bears) only count once.

4. Different ages of the same animal (e.g., baby rats and old rats) only
count once.

5. Wild animals found in newbie-only areas *do* count.

There are three ways to earn points:

1. Hunt the animal and present the corpse to Jheranti, the Seneschal of
the Great Hunt, to be counted. Corpses that decay before you find
Jheranti don't count. Each corpse is worth 3 points.

- You may hunt as a team, but only one person can get credit for any one
corpse. If you and five friends catch six elks, each of you gets credit,
but if you only catch two, only two of you do.

2. If you find an animal you can't hunt, draw a complete, detailed
sketch of the animal. (That is, LOOK AT it and record exactly what you
see; also record where you found it in case we need to confirm it.) Each
complete sketch is worth 1 point. (You cannot submit a sketch of an
animal you also presented a corpse for.) Submit sketches directly to
Theragil via message or mail.

3. Bonus points will be awarded at the discretion of the Hunters for
insightful, well-written essays of a paragraph or more about the animals
you have hunted or sketched. Mail these to Theragil, or record them in a
book, journal, or scroll, and deliver that to Theragil before the end of
the contest month. Some examples:

- Catch different kinds of foxes, then write a few paragraphs about how
they are different and how that relates to where they live, what they
hunt, and what hunts them. 0-5 points.

- Write a paragraph or two about how hunting a particular animal taught
you something about yourself, or changed something about you. 0-5
points.

- Come up with your own idea for something to write related to the Hunt.
Be creative!

At the end of Haernos, the points will be tallied and the best scores
will win credits, gold, equipment, or other prizes to be determined. How
many big prizes there are depends on how many people participate, but
everyone will come away with at least a little something. Entry fees
will be used for prizes, and we'll also accept donations of prizes to
sweeten the pot.
