Public News Post #2127

shedding light on an increasingly murky topic

Written by: Evening Star Aetherys

Addressed to: Everyone

Well, up until about three or four posts back I was marvelling at the
level of discourse that was taking place here. Except perhaps for the
original poster, no one had said anything intentionally provoking,
insulting or rude. Now then, as rancor is beginning to build and old
resentments are -- deliberately, I believe -- being stirred, let's just
stop and think about this.

As someone who has friends on both sides of this "issue" I was impressed
by the quality of most of the posts. And as a neutral party who does
have the best interests of Sapience at heart, I feel honor-bound to
point out a few things here, before the real point gets lost in the
rising storm of insults and rhetoric. As always, my intention here is to
shed some light on the subject, and not to insult anyone or their
beliefs.

With all due respect to you and the Divine you serve, Searoth, what are
you really proposing? Let's wave away the cloud of dogma and rhetoric
and get right down to it: what are you -actually- proposing to do about
the consanguine "issue" here? Words like "purify" are mere rhetoric, for
what can you actually do to "purify" either another individual, or the
realm, of anything? Let's strip away the rhetoric and take an honest
look here.

Do you and/or Lord Rahn propose to offer a "cure" which can restore
so-called normal life to those who have been Embraced? I have heard that
some have begged Lord Rahn for this "cure" in the past, and to my
knowledge it has never been granted. Unless you are proposing to offer a
"cure" -- and mind you, many do not consider it an ailment -- for the
condition of vampirism, there are only two things you can do. And of
those, only one can have any real benefit or meaning.

One, you can try to educate young ones on the drawbacks of choosing the
consanguine path, and thereby hope to save some of them from what you
believe to be a terrible mistake. That might be valid, in that an
informed decision is desireable in any matter which affects someone in
such a profound manner. Two -- and sadly, this is what appears to be the
original intent behind not only your first post but every subsequent one
-- you can try to create an excuse for Daru and/or Luminaries to hunt
and kill consanguine. This would be worse than useless, as anyone can
see with but a moment's reflection.

Leaving aside the moral question -- and to thinking people it is a HUGE
question -- as to whether anyone has any right or any business trying to
harm another based on their path or life decisions, what could you
possibly accomplish by doing such a thing? Killing vampires or
consanguine will not eliminate them from the realm, as you well know. It
appears to me that this is merely a ploy to get a class-based war going
between those of the Blood and those of the Light. And I am hoping that
no one will fall for it.

I really hope that the faithful followers of Lord Rahn will look for
-genuine- solutions, if they believe that the current situation
regarding consanguine in the realm is a genuine problem. If you have any
solutions, or wish to propose any, or wish to begin a dialogue in which
thinking people of any or all classes may discuss possible solutions,
more power to you. I and other thinking people would welcome such an
enlightened approach.

For those of you who have felt provoked and angered by Searoth's posts:
please do not rise to the bait. No matter what resentments from past
wrongs you may have boiling within you, please do not give anyone an
excuse to start a class-based war or vendetta under any guise. If you
believe yourselves to be above such things, then kindly prove it by your
words and conduct.

To all who read and consider this with open minds and self-honest
hearts: thank you.

Penned by my hand on the 22nd of Severin, in the year 131 MA.
