Fighting poverty

Written by: Dhasan Doktor Saltzmaul Geheimrat von Natterstein

Addressed to: Everyone

fairness my own occupational group, the Crafters of Aetolia, in
lives a community on the island of Polyargos of people who are afflicted
by the appalling disease of leprosy. What makes this disease so ugly
is not only the sheer physical discomfort that it entails, but most of
all the the status of social outcasts that it throws upon them. To treat
someone like a leper is not just an empty saying. Unfortunately never
has a lasting cure to their condition be found, any relief of their
health
situation being only temporary. It is therefore not this issue that I
address. What can be done for these people is something else, something
that would benefit the general population of Aetolia as well and in all
fairness my own occupational group, the Crafters of Aetolia, in
particular. Anyone who has ever visited their place must surely have
noticed both the abject poverty and squalor in which they live, and
the general feeling of lack of purpose that hangs like a pall over the
place. Now Polyargos is a fairly large island with a goodly amount of
resources to spare. I hereby, on behalf of the poor people of Polyargos
and all others who may benefit from it, beseech Those that have the
authority to grant them the opportunity to put these resources to good
use and produce several commodities, in particular those that have
become scarce since the disappearance of Thera. In particular
I wonder if You, Lord Rurin might be so inclined to send a few
gnomes to that place to teach the lepers the necessary arts. For
the benefit of all of us, I devoutly pray that you consider this humble
request of mine.

Penned by my hand on the 7th of Lanosian, in the year 119 MA.
