Balance, or an approximation thereof

All these endless debates about Balance!
It really is enough to make us laugh until we can laugh no more!
Whilst (briefly) a monk, I became deeply concerned about what balance
means to me and me alone. Now I have a Sister, and a sharp one at that,
and after a series of debates of our own, we have begun to see what it
means to us. Indeed, we care not what it means to anybody else - that is
their problem, and theirs alone - let any Guild that hopes to understand
it pre-occupy themselves, like creatures content to bury their heads in
the sands of the Desert! Let them!
As we say, I, Arachne and my Sister Alorial - who cares? We have found
*our* own balance.
What we have agreed upon is this - we are all the Centre of our
individual Universes and from that lofty viewpoint, such as it is, we
have decided that it is the best place to witness Balance, if it exists
at all.
Pardon us, dear Aetolians - but we see a parody of Balance. That's about
the size of it. And all we see are glorious wastes of lives, spent in
endless bickering and futile scholarly debate. As we have also agreed,
Balance chases its own tail, endlessly ad infinitum and ad nauseum.
Say I place a small lump of sugar on the ground to my left, and an army
of black ants march in to take it, followed by an army of red ants
fighting their way to victory. Each is a strong army, and will stop at
no
-hing to claim their prize.
What happens, then, if I take the lump of sugar and move it to my right?
Both armies scurry along to another battlefield to claim the sugar,
endlessly going back and forth, as I move the lump back and forth.
Eventually after observing this rather pointless choreography, I eat the
sugar myself.
A pity.
Tsk tsk.
Time better spent elsewhere we say!
Let's face it, all our lives are governed by gold and profit - without
it we would all be as the rats that we hunt, day in and day out.
Here's a worthy goal to follow, then - a healthy bank Balance!
