The Passing of Rahn

As day dawned in Enorian, frantic preparations were being made to
commence a ritual at the Flame of Yggdrasil. Ayalaine, followed by her
compatriots Lessa, Saradin, and Talonnb prepared her group for the task
ahead and set off to the Flame, unaware of the events she was about to
set in motion.

Led by a guildmaster's dream, an Atavian's prophecy, and the urging of a
whispering voice, Ayalaine led the ritual to remove the Corruption of
Chakrasul from the Flame and hoping to strengthen her ailing God, Lord
Rahn.

As the ritual commenced, the Flame began to flicker and sputter while
voices and images flew by on the wind. But Ayalaine and those
surrounding her were not worried; they faltered not and took Corruption
first into themselves. They attempted to purify it through Fire by
finally focusing it into the Inner Spark, the innermost dwelling of Fire
within herself and the others.

But the philosophy behind the plan was skewed: The Corruption was passed
into the Essence of Rahn by way of the Inner Spark and was too much for
the weakened God. His Essence was torn from Him and He began to fade.

Loretta, the priestess of Rahn appeared, sapping much of her remaining
energy to plead with those completing the ritual to stop. She faded into
nothingness, her disappearance preceded by the flight of Gloria, Rahn's
falcon to the branches above the flame of Yggdrasil. This falcon, with
its ability to communicate in images the feelings and actions of its
Lord showed the world a grisly depiction of Rahn's death.

As the image of the charred remains of Rahn faded from the sky, so too
did Gloria. With both went much of the mortals' abilities to harness
fire. Magi and Healers found the elemental channel of Fire refused to
burn at their behest. Luminaries and Daru awakened to the realization
that even their slightest evocation was not heeded, and forgers quickly
learned that their forges remained cold.

Panic spread throughout Enorian as leaders converged to discuss what had
occured, but one fact remained: Rahn, Lord of Fire, was no more. Many
sought whom to blame. Was it the vile cretins who had poisoned the wells
of Enorian a few months back who sent the treacherous images to the
faithful? Was it the necromancers and Consanguine, who have sought for
many years a way to weaken the power of those who walked proudly in the
Light? What of Severn, who has remained quiet in recent years? Is this
yet another of His plots coming to fruition?

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Slyphian, in the year 160 MA.
