AREAS threat update

Aetolia AREAS command threat level update an armored hunter with a lantern assesses danger in a dark shadowed forest with predatory creatures lurking

Hi folks,

We’ve been trialing a new version of the areas command on our Discord to gather feedback, and now that we’ve ironed out the rough edges, we’re cutting it over into the standard AREAS command. The existing AREAS command has been updated to include this new functionality, and NEWAREAS has been retired.

In addition to the recommended minimum level, AREAS will now show you a personalized threat level for each area, calculated from your resistances and healing versus the area’s damage output. From least to most dangerous, the threat levels are: Safe, Moderate, Challenging, Dangerous, and Lethal.

A few assumptions are made when working this out:

  • Your healing is based on just health elixir (accounting for artifacts) + boar tattoo.
  • If you are level 90+, it also assumes you’re using anabiotic pills.

The threat level will be increased by one rank in either of these situations (and by two ranks if both apply):

  • The area’s population is 20% or higher aggressive denizens that roam.
  • The area contains denizens that can deal more than 50% of your HP in a single hit.
  • Some areas may be manually elevated in threat due to special mechanics found in the area or on the denizens.

If you want to see how a particular area’s threat level was calculated, you can dig into the details with AREAS DETAILS <area>, e.g. AREAS DETAILS THE UNDERBELLY.

You’ll find some additional notes on the details also that do not currently contribute to threat level, such as if the area has writhe or blackout afflictions present, or if we’ve manually elevated the threat level due to special mechanics.

See HELP AREAS for full information.
