To one who sleeps

If I could still dream, would you be haunting them
If my heart still beat, would you still make it race
No, I do not think you would
too much time has past, and the girl I was is gone
I remember you, you who helped shape me
who showed me one of the darker corners of myself
Despair has chipped away parts of me
the very ones you used to love
Those pieces made me weak, held me back
letting go made me more than I ever thought to be
I do not regret my time in your arms
nor do I regret the pain we gave one another
It is part of me, and I am stronger for it
and the lessons remain with me still
Every time I rise again, the more distant you become
the love I clung to so desperately...
is no more than a memory now.
May sleep bring you solace
and should you ever wake, know this

I am stronger for knowing you
...and stronger without you.

Penned by my hand on Kinsday, the 4th of Lleian, in the year 16 AC.
