Water & Heat

Life is hungry and the living drink
Water to live, we float lest we sink
Life is cold and living souls seek heat
The hearth, where together, our hearts beat

Life Herself thirsts because She is Life
Growth feeds, kindles; it flows on the knife
Turning to compost, Death's holy mud
The cycle rolled on by She who drinks blood

You would have Her cease breathing
You would have Her hold still?
Would take barren sand seething
Over dark earth to till?

YOU WOULD HAVE HER CEASE BREATHING!?
YOU WOULD HAVE HER HOLD STILL?!
WOULD TAKE BARREN SAND SEETHING!?
OVER DARK EARTH TO TILL?!

you would have her cease breathing
you would have her hold still
would take barren sand seething
over dark earth to till

Would those at bright hearths could understand
As our green hearths do, who follow Her demand
Cherish the blossom and cherish the child
But all things will die in this beautiful wild

And only the redwoods know how deep runs the pain
A hymn only heard by listening to the rain
What dies is reborn on the strains of Her song
In Her hope, in Her dream, in Her love they belong

So know this, lightfellows, when standing by blaze
A campfire's burn makes the company's eyes faze
Past flame lies a vastness cast dark in the night
Witnessed only by stars and moon-silvered sight.

Penned by my hand on Falsday, the 23rd of Chakros, in the year 14 AC.
