A Stone's Lesson

Ev'ry rock once saw a fire
Even those beneath the sea
Hard and cold, but not forgotten
The lesson here's a gift to me

My ev'ry scale belongs to fire
Even those I cannot see
Hard and cold, I had forgotten
Infernos I am meant to be

"I am not stuck, I am embedded,"
a smooth stone in Myesis' stream
"I influence the current here,
my stillness holds a greater scheme."

I hold a stillness of my own
to hear what wisdom I might glean
My patience is rewarded swiftly
The stone was now continuing,

"Some day soon, I will be lifted
loosened from my purchase here
The current buoying me along
I've no control, I cannot steer"

"But on my way I'll knock stones free
Just as, I too, was lifted up
along my whirling path, debris
I've influenced by choice or luck."

I pause and wonder at this thought
Of currents and of company
Who am I to state or choose
My impact had on somebody?

"I might be washed ashore and then
Be used for other purposes
Again I've no control in this
the larger scheme resurfaces

"And here behold a bonfire now
I have not seen for many years
My body used to hold its edges
Forgotten powers reappear."

I have more purposes than one?
Or maybe paths are more complex
As ev'rything is ev'rything
We never know what's coming next

Penned by my hand on Quensday, the 8th of Arios, in the year 473 MA.
