First Freedoms

Written by: Student Ianca

Some'd leech the fire from Xorans' tongues
and fill our mouths with ash
My tongue is blackened, but not burned
I still thirst for compassion

A Kelki's kindness bore me here
Imp's bruskness helped me thrive
In Duiran's boughs I've found a home
And here I will survive

My first touch felt of lightning
coursing through my very veins
the heat felt over-welcoming
the wilds, to me, sang

I came to understand though
that these powers came with cost
some deeper thinking need be had
lest newfound freedoms lost

A pause made room for rhythms
thrumming quiet 'neath my scales
A crackling, a gentle warmth
Veiled melodies and tales

Penned by my hand on Closday, the 2nd of Variach, in the year 473 MA.
